New Horizons
In order to grow a a photographer, or indeed as an artist, I think it is important to try new things. To this end, I have spent some time roaming the streets of Sydney with an open mind, and camera in hand. I've jostled with political reporters, sat in the gutter swapping yarns with the homeless, roamed through our city's art galleries,... all manner of things to freshen my perspective on things. You can expect to see the results. I have also spent a bit of time watching documentaries featuring Henri Cartier-Bresson, in order to gain a much greater understanding of his approach to photography. If you are unfamiliar with his work, this video may help: Henri Cartier-Bresson L'amour tout court Part1. My eternal gratitude to those understanding of my need to grow at this point.
Dang InterWeb!
Eh, had a few network issues that basically kept me offline for a couple of days. I ended up reconfiguring everything from scratch, and all seems to be running fairly well so far. Fingers crossed! I will get through the backlog of deviations, messages, comments, etc. as soon as I can. I hope you've all been busy, because I'm in the mood for some good art.
Miscellaneous News
- As promised, I recently put together a collection of tips and tricks relating to portrait photography. It turned out to be more popular than I though: Portrait Photography: Tips and Tricks
- WTF? I am in the background of a photograph that appeared in the Brisbane Times. Caught during my first attempts at political photojournalism.

- I've now joined the super group, #street as a Contributor, and look forward to learning much during this time.

- I've been practicing shooting "from the hip" a bit lately, which basically means shooting without looking through the viewfinder. Apart from a tendency towards cutting off people's heads, my accuracy has improved much.
- I recently became a member of The Yard Collective, Street Photography Club. Do check them out!
